Day 10: Monteverde Cloud Forest / Arenal Volcano

Highlight of the Day:

Another early rise and breakfast as we are leaving for the Arenal area.
Our first stop was at the Skywalk (also available: Skytram and Sky-Zipline), a series of suspension bridges, for a bird’s-eye view of the forest canopy — considered the last frontier of the tropical cloud forest. At last we experience the famous cloud forest, the air is moist and foggy. We see tons of trees and plants, epiphytes, orchids.

Afterwards, we took a leisurely 3 ½-hour drive to Arenal, around Lake Arenal, Costa Rica’s largest lake, adorned by the mighty Arenal Volcano. On our way, we stop to sample some tropical ice cream flavors and observe some giant lizards.

Upon our arrival, the top of Arenal Volcano is covered in clouds.
Our Hotel is splendid and luxurious, each cabin has its own outside hot tub or mini-pool. The shower is a waterfall, surrounded by live plants.
